Oh, honeymoon! No one can deny that one of the best moments of getting married is going on a honeymoon. Be it right after the wedding or a little later, be it an extravagant one, or a little tone-down – the honeymoon is something that every couple should be able to do.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Once you make the decision to take a honeymoon done, it’s not time to decide where to go. I know it’s a little overwhelming to choose. You can now get pretty much anywhere in the world. While each place offers such different things, it’s understandable why it can be a little confusing and time-consuming.

This article will help you decide where to go for the 2 weeks honeymoon. This includes places in Southeast Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, Oceania, South America, East Asia, and all the way to Africa.

COST FOR 2 WEEKS HONEYMOON

The average cost of a honeymoon ranges from $5,000 up to $10,000 if you plan to celebrate it overseas. However, you can easily bring this cost down.

Do you know that backpackers spend $600-$800 in Southeast Asia for a month’s trip? In Europe, for a month, you can spend $1,000 to $2,000. I’m not saying you should cheap out during your honeymoon, stay in hostels, and do hitchhike.

You can definitely stay in 5-star resorts and dine at fancy restaurants during your honeymoon without spending more than you want to. If you have the budget, I say go for it! In this article, couples planning to stick to a budget or go luxury will both find the best place to spend their romantic getaway.

IMPORTANT TIP: Look if your chosen destination has resorts or hotels that say “adults only“. These establishments are far more enjoyable and relaxing.

HOW TO PLAN A HONEYMOON IF ON A BUDGET

A honeymoon doesn’t have to be expensive. You can have a fun, memorable, and exciting honeymoon without spending all your savings or going into debt. Of course, the cost will depend a lot on where you want to go, what you want to do, and how long you want to stay.

But with enough planning, you don’t need to spend unnecessary money to celebrate a life milestone with your life partner.

Quick wedding

If you decide to get married within a short period of time, it’s better to plan the honeymoon at least 3 months later. In this way, you can take advantage of pre-selling of flight tickets, compare prices of hotels, and most likely avoid peak seasons.

To help a bit, here’s a list of my favourite travel sites. Many of them have flexible cancellations and have a policy where they don’t charge you until a few days before your trip.

When do you want to go

When choosing where to go for a 2-week honeymoon trip, don’t focus on “affordable destinations”. For example, Thailand is generally an affordable place to visit. But if you plan to come during peak season or if you are flying from a country that doesn’t have a direct flight or the flight takes 2-3 connections, the ticket cost will surely add up.

Instead, look at places near you or the ones with only 1-2 connections and go during pre or post-peak time.

If you really want to go during summer or winter, which both can be busy seasons, remember to book your flights at least 3-6 months in advance to score some good deals.

Where to go

As I mentioned, it’s best to decide on a place near you or have better flight options. However, if you really want to go to a destination farther away, you can make the trip longer to make the flight worth taking.

You can also budget a chunk of your money on a flight and stay in more affordable hotels in your destination. Flying from Los Angeles to Bangkok costs about $2,000 per person for a round-trip, which means $4,000 for two people. You can do this, but you should book a mid-range hotel and join a group tour instead of a private tour.

If you fly from LA to Cancun, Mexico, the ticket is only about $400 per person. Because of cheap flights, you can instead book a five-star resort and eat at nice restaurants.

How long is the honeymoon

Of course, the longer you stay in a foreign country on a holiday style, the more the cost will go up. 2 weeks for a honeymoon is ideal, and 3 weeks means you can travel slower, but 4 weeks is getting on that borderline semi-long-term trip.

If you really want to go on a long-term honeymoon trip, head to a place that is more affordable and adjust your style a bit differently. You can start by booking a fancy 5-star hotel for the first few nights and get that romantic scene you’ve been dreaming about.

Then you can bring it down a notch and book a mid-range hotel to help the cost. You can start dining at local restaurants instead of expensive restaurants. Book a group tour instead of getting a private tour guide and transportation service.

LAND TRIP OF CRUISE FOR HONEYMOON

A land trip is an awesome way to travel with your new husband or wife. But it’s not for everyone. Unless you plan to book a trip for 2 weeks with everything arranged for you by the travel agent, a land trip will include lots of planning and ensuring that there are only a few hassles will happen on the road.

For couples who prefer not to spend too much time booking and arranging the honeymoon, you should look at multi-day cruise tours. All you need to do is book the dates, arrive at the point of call, board, and enjoy your trip.

Cruises that go for a longer period, such as 10-14 days, sail through massive ships. These ships have everything you need. It features pools, restaurants (yes, plural), bars, theatres, live shows, casinos, libraries, and a gym.

If you enjoy planning (I know I do), a land trip is ideal for you and your spouse. If you prefer to put your feet up, booking a long-trip cruise is more suitable.

BEST HONEYMOON CRUISES (for 2 weeks)

Cruises are one of the most popular ways to celebrate honeymoons for newly-wed couples. The unlimited sunset, exciting activities, buffet dinners and lunches, and fantastic destinations can all be made possible by booking a cruise.

You don’t have to worry about getting from point A to B, arranging hotels and excursions, and wasting time making sure you will have a hassle-free trip. In a few clicks, you can remove all the exhausting travel arrangement and pack your luggage and head to paradise.

2 WEEKS HONEYMOON DESTINATIONS

Now, to the list of the best places to spend your honeymoon if you have 2 weeks. From Asia, Europe, and Africa, to Latin America.

Europe

Europe will always be a great destination when it comes to being a perfect place to spend your 2 weeks honeymoon.

It’s even suitable for couples who are on a budget. Europe as a honeymoon destination has everything – from romantic locations, historical sites, music festivals, boat tours overlooking a sunset, hiking, and diverse culture and cuisine.

Suppose you want a romantic place, head to France, Italy, and Spain. Although these destinations are expensive, it’s all worth it. Walk through Paris’ popular locations, then take a scenic road trip through the Alps. Finally, finish off your trip by enjoying the Mediterranean Sea.

For couples who are adventure seekers, go to Iceland, where you can dive between two tectonic plates that separate North America and Europe. You can also visit Switzerland for its fantastic hiking and cycling routes.

Historical lovers should visit Italy, Greece, and Poland, where you can learn about the country’s history and visit war-related locations. On the other hand, when it comes to food, Italy, Spain, and Germany hands down have one of the best dishes in the region.

Finally, for beach and water activities enthusiasts, head to the east of Spain, south of France, Croatia, and Greece. You might even want to consider Turkey, which is rich in history, incredible scenery, stunning beaches, and great food.

If you plan to visit two countries, pick two bordered by one another so you can take the train or bus or get on a short flight without spending too much time moving around. You have 14 days for your honeymoon, plan meticulously.

Check our article on 2 weeks in Europe, which comes with 6 different itineraries for you to choose from.

Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is undeniably the new hotspot for honeymooners. It has a gorgeous beach comparable to the Mediterranean Sea and the Caribbean without the high price tag. This region also has world-class local dishes.

The locals are very friendly, and depending on where you can go, speaking English with locals helps to get around and communicate much easier. We have 5 different itineraries for 2 weeks in Southeast Asia.

For foodies, plan your 2 weeks honeymoon in Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore. For those who love the beach, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia are fantastic.

Indonesia and the Philippines have great surfing spots and a number of active volcanoes to visit. While in Indonesia, you can spend 2 weeks in Bali as your honeymoon destination.

If you enjoy learning about culture and history, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, and the Philippines are awesome choices.

Book your trip to Borneo (Malaysia and Indonesia), the Philippines, Vietnam, and Laos for hiking and exploring nature. People from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines can speak English amazingly for those worried about communicating in a local language.

Caribbean

If you’re from Latin America or North America, the Caribbean is easily the top place to spend your honeymoon. There are awesome direct flights that will take you there, the beaches are world-class, and the people are super friendly.

If you do plan to go to the Caribbean, it’s highly recommended to avoid the summer season. The price really hikes up and everything is booked. We also have an island-hopping itinerary for the Caribbean.

You can honestly go anywhere in the Caribbean regarding the beach. Make sure to enjoy a sunset cruise. However, if you are on a budget, you should probably look at Panama, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. We have an article about 2 weeks in Mexico.

For those with a great budget, the sky is the limit. Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Barbados, and the British Virgin Islands are the most popular destinations.

You can also combine two countries, but look up the flights first and make sure that there are direct ones between the two destinations.

Maldives

You and I know that I can’t write a list of the best honeymoon destinations without honourable mention of the one and only, astonishing Maldives. The group of islands is honestly out of this world. The diversity of marine life and picturesque beaches are not enough words to describe this beautiful place.

The fact that the islands are expected to go underwater by the end of the century makes people think they must visit them as soon as possible.

Visiting the Maldives is expensive. First, there are nearly no direct flights to the Maldives, next, the accommodations are nearly all 5-star resorts. On top of that, the tours you can book are also much more expensive than in the rest of Asia and even compared to Europe.

Africa

A honeymoon in Africa is a magnificent experience. You can book a safari, and sleep in the middle of a wild forest, overlooking the vast savannah with a sunset backdrop. Spot wild animals such as giraffes, hippopotami, elephants, lions, and other gorgeous animals.

Visiting during the Great Migration season and witnessing a spectacular natural occurrence when wild animals move around in large groups. You can also explore the jungle from above and book a hot air balloon.

If you do want to do a wild safari for your 2 weeks honeymoon, go to Kruger Park in South Africa, Serengeti in Tanzania, and Maasai Game Reserve in Kenya.

For surfing, go to South Africa, the Canary Islands, and Morocco. But if you prefer the desert and explore sand dunes and interesting history, head to Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, and Western Sahara.

Africa also has lovely beaches located in Tanzania, Seychelles, Mauritius, the Canary Islands, and Madeira.

Tanzania is an ideal destination. This is where the highest peak of Africa is located (Mount Kilimanjaro), you can then go to Serengeti for a wild safari, and finally to Zanzibar for its beaches. 2 weeks in Tanzania is a perfect trip.

In South Africa, you can do a wild safari in Kruger National Park, surf at Jeffrey’s Bay, visit Cape Town, hike Table Mountain, see African penguins, and visit the prison where Nelson Mandela was held. Spending 2 weeks in South Africa will be very eventful.

South America

For a long time, I believed travelling around South America would be complicated and involve lots of flying. A big part of the continent sits on top of the Andes Mountains, which means travelling by land can be complicated.

But, many countries in this region have airports both in big cities and smaller towns. I found travel much easier, and the locals are super helpful. I also can’t deny how the culture is very fascinating and that there is no shortage of wonderful places to explore.

Brazil is definitely on top of the list of countries to celebrate your wedding and commitment to one another. You can go to Rio and Sau Paolo for fabulous beaches, then head to the Amazon Rainforest to explore the wilderness.

If you and your partner have always wanted to see Machu Picchu, this is your chance. Learn about the pre-colonial culture of South America, and go to Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay.

For outdoor, hit Patagonia either from Chile’s side or Argentina’s. Both countries also offer cool deserts that are very different from Mexico. You will also get to visit the “southern point of the world”. For affordable destinations, visit Uruguay, Colombia, Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru.

Check our itineraries for 2 weeks in Brazil and 2 weeks in Peru – both articles have at least two itineraries each to choose from. Or our incredible 2 weeks in South America itinerary.

Nepal

Perhaps, you and your partner love the outdoors or hiking in general. Why not spend your first joint trip as a newlywed by doing the famous and challenging 14 days Everest Base Camp trek? Maybe you want to check out a different mountain, such as Annapurna or Manaslu? For that, we also have itineraries for 2 weeks in Nepal.

Not only are there lots of things to do in Nepal, but also it’s one of the most affordable destinations. I travelled there for a month and spent no more than $2,500, including flights, tours, accommodation, and food (I flew from Europe).

East Asia

East Asia boasts a rich culture, tasty dishes, and interesting culture. All these things are what separates this region from the rest of the continent yet make each of the countries quite similar in many aspects.

Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong undoubtedly have one of the best dishes in the world. These three countries are the perfect place to visit if you and your partner love food. You can also learn about South Korea and Japan’s war history that shaped them as their own countries today.

Planning 2 weeks honeymoon in East Asia also means that you can definitely visit two countries. You can do Japan and South Korea or Taiwan and Hong Kong. You can even hit up three since all these countries have direct flights to one another.

Oceania

There are many destinations in Oceania, the most popular are New Zealand and Australia. Both countries offer breathtaking diving spots and astounding wilderness. If you missed seeing the northern lights in Europe or North America, go see the Southern Lights in New Zealand.

Diving and snorkelling are the two popular water activities during a honeymoon. Make sure to visit the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and climb the famous Sydney BridgeClimb.

Check both our 2 weeks in New Zealand and 2 weeks in Australia articles to help you decide where to go. Just remember, if you are flying from the Americas, Europe, and Africa, getting to this region will take a lot of time.

If you want to visit somewhere less popular, head to Papua New Guinea, Fiji, or American Samoa.
